HGTD week will take place at Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana. The institute is located 20 min walk from the city center (Institut Jožef Stefan – Google Maps). Please find below all the necessary information about the event. Please let us know if you have any question related to HGTD week.

Transport

Air

Ljubljana Airport | Ljubljana Airport (lju-airport.si) is located some 25 km to the north of Ljubljana. It is small airport, but connects to the most important hubs Frankfurt, Paris, London, Munich, Brussels, Zurich, Istanbul. A possible  alternative airport Venice, Trieste, Zagreb are served from Ljubljana by shuttles (GoOpti Airport Transfer).

There are several ways to get from the airport to the city center.

  • taxi - the taxis parker outside the arrivals (mostly BMW, Mercedes) are more expensive, but you can pick them on spot.  They are around 50 EUR - please ask the price ahead. There are many on-call taxis that are affordable. As most of you will arrive with only a handfull of fligths you will be likely able to share it (the list of taxis is here Taxi » Visit Ljubljana

    We do not recommend hiring a taxi at the airport. It is better to call a taxi service by phone (inflated prices).
  • We recommend:
    Metro Taxi T: 080 11 90 M:+ 386 (0)41 240;
    Taxi Intertours T: 080 311 311 M:+ 386 (0)31 311 311;
    Taxi Laguna
    T: 080 11 17, +386 (0)1 511 23 14 M:+386 (0)31 492 299)

  • Shuttles for around 10 people are parked outside the airport (small traffic on the airport so they wait for the landing planes). They cost around 12 EUR and take you to the desired place in the city. You can pre-book them as well on the internet.
  • §BUS ( Timetable | Arriva Slovenija ) – around every hour

Train

Slovenian railways - Passenger traffic (sz.si) connections to Ljubljana are not very frequent. Connections to AUT and ITA are few a day.

Car

Ljubljana is well linked with motorways and navigation is easy - relatively small city of 300 k people. Please note that parking at the institute is limited and make us aware ahead so that we can book a few lots. Traffic in Ljubljana and around Ljubljana is moderate so driving is like in any European city.

Local transport:

Basically everything can be reached by foot in 30 min. If not, busses are frequent, but you need a special prepaid card – Urbana (1.3 EUR/90 min ride). It is also in available as application. Taxis are relatively cheap 0.8-1.7 EUR/km.

Accommodation

Mid-september is not high season, but also not empty, so book ahead of time. Our experience is that most of the hotels don't offer any better rates for pre-booked lots of rooms, so e.g. booking.com or AirB&B would get you similar offers.  The most notable hotels are in the city center, so if you would like to enjoy the city that is a good choice. The JSI is 20 min walk away from the center. Some of larger hotels are Slon, Lev, Intercontinental, Park. Usually some smaller providers (appartments) offer good and more affordable accomondation.
