This seminar will give an introduction to and status update of the Hubble tension, the 6 sigma discrepancy between the two most precise methods for measuring the expansion rate of our Universe. The most promising resolutions of the tension employ "early" new physics to modify the sound horizon, the standard ruler used in CMB and BAO based determinations of the expansion rate. A possibly related new piece of the puzzle might be the recent evidence for non-standard dark energy from the DESI experiment.
